Really am not keeping up with this New Years resolution stuff am I? Hehe, anyway I'm back with some of my most recent work. I have to say I have been busy, but yet again haven't been active enough on here, so for that I apologise!

So this is some of my latest photography/ drawing work for my garment project. As of now I have actually submitted this project and am actually just getting round to blogging about it, but I will update you on my mark when I post a round up of this modules work.

You are probably wondering what this work is about? Well, as mentioned in a recent post on my shower photography, I was working on a drawing project titled 'Garment'. I wanted to focus on an unusual style of drawing (it being a project focused on drawing) so decided to explore into the realm of wire drawing, and developing on from that, wearable wire drawings.

I did do them on both men and women focusing on a corset and button up shirt. The metallic quality of the drawings represents to entrapment and constrictive qualities the solid clothing has. Regular clothing is a lot more enclosing than we can come to realise and this represents the struggle to hide the shame of nudity against the destructive and harsh effects the clothing can have on the body (tight, pressing, constricting and chaffing).





I used dark backgrounds so the wire disappears into the black. I am using these photographs as the drawings themselves, with the bodies as the 'white of the paper'. I feel there is so much potential for this work, and that I just need to push this idea forward. I definitely want to bring this idea into my next module, which I have been given so better get cracking ;)

Well come on, everyone needs that New year new me blog post? I mean, I doubt I'll suddenly become a brand new person, Goddess of productivity and water consumption but maybe writing it down will be more motivating? ;)

So what now?

Consume more water than my windowsill cacti plants..-

A lot of us have this at the top of the self improvement list. After a little research on doctor Google I have come to the conclusion that adults need roughly 1.5l to 2l of water a day. (don't quote me on that!) I on the other hand drink about a glass of squash. I want to clear my skin and hopefully give myself a little hydrated spring to my step and what better place to start than water?!

Generate more than 1 or 2 blog posts a month!-

Hello my lovelies,
Since I'm going to be mega busy with my job this week (just this week though I promise!), I wanted to share some of my past work with you. I'm not trying to take the easy option I just think it will be nice to show you some of my old sketchbooks and how they have got me to where i am.

Unfortunately my cringe worthy GCSE sketchbooks have disappeared so I will have to start with my slightly less cringy A level one. This book is from my second year of A level and it my exam book (had a set start and deadline during the year). We were given a really awkward set of themes (seen on the first page below) to follow but thank goodness I was actually able to pull this one out the bag.

Obviously this isn't my whole sketchbook because it's tiny and I did have to take some of my better work to put in my portfolio but this is the bulk of the best work I did during this project. My idea for this body of work was to 'Elevate the Ordinary' and make regular things like people and faces that bit more interesting and unique.

I did decide to do some artist research during the beginning of the project to gain a little inspiration and knowledge on how other artists had elevated the ordinary.




As you can see I began to take an interest in linework and developing my own illustrative line style.





Here I was totally new to Photoshop so to me this layered image below meant a lot to me effort wise.


And my final piece (sorry about the blurriness) was a large, A2 board with a mixed media piece with tissue paper and fabric with a layered black outline on top.


I was so proud of this book when I handed it in because I felt I had really tried and worked hard to vary the style and technique throughout this project. In hindsight I could probably annotate more and explore more artists work but overall I was and am still pretty proud of my A level efforts. Oh, and if anyone was wondering what level my work was on, I got an A for both AS and A level which i was soo happy with!

I will see what other sketchbook I can dig up and will be back soon with more sneak peeks into my past and maybe even current sketchbooks in the not too distant future! Thanks for reading and see you soon.

Okay, so it is the night before results day currently and to be honest, I thought I wouldn't be that nervous about it. I've completed all the modules and finished all the required paperwork so I should pass but I'm so nervous and I don't quite know why..

I think it is a reflection of the past results days I've had to attend like GCSE and A level. Obviously I want to do well and if possible get the best marks but there's always a residual sense of doubt that lingers around on results day. Let's hope I get a decent amount of sleep but what with personal stress and results stress I think there's a very slim chance!

The good news is I can bring my work home which means I can photograph it properly and finally set up my online portfolio with a link included here which is exciting! that's something to look forward to in the meantime and options can be explored. Anyway, it's rather late so I'd better disappear!

So painstakingly took down the exhibition and drinking my hot chocolate. I've just been handed my envelope and let's say the contents were not what I was expecting! I'm more than excited to say I achieved a Distinction grade! I am so happy and I really didn't think I'd be able to pull that off, like I felt distinction was out of my reach.

5:50pm:

I think it's a fit time to discuss my year of doing an Art and Design Foundation Diploma seeing as I am coming to the end of my time there. I have thoroughly enjoyed this kind of experience and would definitely recommend this kind of course to anyone studying Art and Design.

It has given me time to experiment and grow and learn things I probably would have missed out on if I had jumped straight into a degree. ( For those who are unaware, a Foundation Diploma is the stage between A level and Degree level that gives you time to develop before progressing to university.)

I started this course September last year and haven't looked back since. The course was split into three sections and I feel this progression helped me to shape my work whilst exploring techniques I hadn't yet had access to.

It consisted of experimentation and generally trying anything and everything which to someone like me was wonderful. Not just painting but most of the fields were included like textiles, printing, Photoshop, ceramics, 3D design, photography etc.

We then moved onto refining the area we wanted to work in and experimented further in that field. This was preparing us for the final stage where we composed a project with a finished product/ piece.


And finally we had to compile an exhibition of our work to display to the public.

 


This is a very condensed and poor quality compilation of my work but I wanted to include a lot of it. It is random but I have explored and tried a lot of things out this past year and want to give examples. Throughout my sketchbooks I have linked my work and tied it all together so collectively it makes more sense. I simply wanted to show the range of things I tried (this is nowhere near all of it either) and how I spent my time doing my foundation.

I really feel this experience has helped me grow in my skills, my techniques and my knowledge of who, what, where and how in the world of art and design. I feel I could just go for it, unafraid of the outcome and really set myself free instead of penning myself in with my perfectionism. My work is by no means perfect but I feel this is the beauty of it as I was free to have a go, and to find out where my interests and talents lay.

To anyone studying A level or Art BTEC I would more than recommend this kind of course because there is so much out there that you can experiment with and when an extra year to discover these opportunities, why would anyone turn it down? I was petrified at the end of A level as I felt so unprepared for university but know I feel so much more confident in my knowledge of the art world as well as techniques and media.

As one of my first posts of considerable length I hope you enjoy my work and I hope to include good quality, extended posts in the future too. And wow this sounds way more formal than I expected!
